DLR Blog It's Official: Robots Are Now Taking Over the Construction Industry

Well, we all knew this was coming. I hope everyone has properly prepared. After watching things like the Terminator, i, Robot, and Bladerunner, we honestly can't say we weren't warned. I'm of course referencing the self-driving mini-skid steer that was debuted at ConExpo 2017.Our company's CEO, Max Hoskins II, sent us a video of an unmanned skid steer navigating a dirt pit, using its bucket as if someone were controlling it. The machine, designed by Honeywell Sensing IOT, was shown off at ConExpo 2017, drawing many (warranted) Ooo's and Aahh's. The machine was able to scoop, turn without an operator.By the way, when we say mini skid steer, we mean mini. About the size of a battlebot, the mini-skid-steer is part of a new line called Mini-Builders. The idea behind the project is incorporating the use of a bunch of small machines to do the work of a large, regular sized machine. It's a bold idea, and who knows if these tiny machines will be able to do the rugged work of the experienced, seasoned, normal-sized machines. If it works, however, it will provide a much cheaper alternative. Strength in numbers, I guess? This machine may not be able to do any real damage, yet. But in a few years, when they gain their own sense of consciousness and team up with the 3D printer that makes construction machines, the humans are in trouble. Until then, be on the lookout for products of the Mini-Builders line - Discount Lift Rentals may have to start renting them out soon.Watch the full video recap, along with highlights from the rest of ConExpo, here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=frLIvjmQz_s
