In a right-to-work state, teachers took personal days to fight for better pay and increases to per-pupil spending, both of which are <a href="https://www.documentcloud.org/documents/4443932-NEA-teacher-pay-rankings-2018.html" target="_blank">well below the national average in North Carolina</a>.</p> <p>The demonstration was emotional. It was powerful.
