The cream of their crop.Having banged down the door for the last few years about the suitability and sustainability of Italian varieties grown in Australian soil, this year sees their exploration of Fiano, Nero d'Avola, Nebbiolo (and also the one French variety outlier, Merlot) mature to a new level."We all know by now that these varieties are great for Australia, but now we want to take the conversation beyond that to site expression," Brendan told us while tasting through the new lineup. There are three Fianos on offer: River Sands from the warm, dry Riverlands; Slate Farm from an exceptional plot in Clare Valley; and the piercing Alluvium (described by Brendan with a hint of irony as their "Grand Cru" version of Fiano this year) from the Adelaide Hills. The three reds include the "Italian inspired" Taboo Merlot, the bright yet detailed Pipe Dream Nero d'Avola and the Exocarpos - a blistering Nebbiolo from 2015 grown on one of the country's premier Nebbiolo vineyards. These are some of the duo's best releases to date and as always are made in very limited volume. If you want to see what Brendan and Laura are up to the wines will be available for a short time here.
