Diaelec: On-board charger integrates multiple functions

The Japanese manufacturer Diamond Electric Mfg. Co., Ltd. has developed a "3 in 1" on-board charger (OBC) that integrates three functions in one package: a 6.6 kW charger, a 2.1 kW low voltage DC-DC converter (LDC) for auxiliary power units and a power supply unit (PDU) for switching to rapid charging. This enables downsizing at system level, reduces the weight of electric vehicles and should contribute to the spread of electric vehicles.Electric vehicles and plug-in hybrids use more electronic components such as on-board chargers (OBC), and the demand for downsizing and weight reduction of these components is growing. With this in mind, Diamond Electric has developed a 6.6 kW on-board charger (OBC) as a "3 in 1" solution. The company's transformer design and thermal management enabled the product to be downsized by 30% compared to other products on the market.
