The $5.5 million project cost includes money spent buying the properties. DevelopSpringfield, which focuses on rebuilding underused and decrepit city properties that for-profit developers won't touch, received a $2.2 million grant from the state's MassWorks Infrastructure Program last year. It also received $500,000 from MassMutual Financial Group and $30,000 from the Beveredge Family Foundation.
