CUBRC's Aeroscience group has developed an integrated approach to research and testing that couples our state of the art hypervelocity large-scale ground test facilities with the most modern Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) capabilities. CUBRC makes extensive use of CFD models in the design of the test articles; selection and positioning of instrumentation; and in the selection of test conditions and LENS tunnel operating parameters. CUBRC employs "state-of-the-art" finite element structural and dynamic codes in the design of the test facility components, models and instrumentation. CUBRC is deeply involved in the evaluation of the models of turbulence and chemistry employed in the numerical codes to predict and design high speed vehicles. CUBRC has funded major experimental studies producing measurements, and is working with the computational community, to evaluate and improve advanced CFD codes for the design of experimental facilities and high speed vehicles.
