In 2005 or 2006, I don't remember which specifically, I attended the NTCA Wireless Symposium in Dallas, TX. Many of the presentations were concerning the impending death of WIFI and the rise of WiMAX. WiMAX chips in phones, tablets and laptops were just around the corner promising much faster speeds at greater distances than the available WIFI protocols of the time. In hindsight, it seems clear that Mark Twain said it best, "The reports of my death are greatly exaggerated." Just like Twain, the premature obituariesconcerning the end of WIFI were overly exaggerated. The rest is history.
