Congregation Etz Chaim Blog Thoughts on Pittsburgh - November 1

Though I am on sabbatical and not due to resume my weekly blog till March the events of this past horrid week compelled me to share thoughts. What words can I add to the heart-breaking laments and to the soul ripping eulogies? What tears can I add to the weeping? What solace can I add to the love? What outrage can I add to the hate?   My thoughts humbly added to the chorus.   We are not to yield to iniquity, to the savages that walk among us. We are not to run from the synagogue but to it. We are not to run from Jewish crowds but to them. We are not to shed our kippot but wear them. We are not to crumble into kaddish but rise up filling the heavens with Am Yisroel Chai. Pittsburgh is not Berlin. It is not Vilna. Not Warsaw. Not Bialystok. We are to roar in defiance of evil. Suck the marrow out of each day. Sing. Dance. Soar. Celebrate life unflinchingly as proud Jews. As proud Americans. Because we never know if we will make it to oneg.
