What if someone malicious registered, say the goog1e.com domain name and sent phising messages with just the right font so that the 1 looked liked the letter l? OpenDNS thought about cases like this and is developing metrics to incorporate into their DNS-based solution, Umbrella. We've been recommending including OpenDNS' solutions as part of an overall Security strategy. It is particularly well suited to 'guest' wifi networks and BYOD situations, since it evaluates clients' DNS requests and therefore does not require any device-based clients.
