Each and every progressive institution in America is now presented with a stark choice at a time when Trump takes the U.S. presidency and moves the country in an increasingly authoritarian direction. The institutions that will successfully rise to be helpful in this historic moment, we believe, are those willing to take big risks, protect the vulnerable, call out villains at every turn, build long-term movement power, and fight hard to win. This implies a refusal to enable or legitimize the new normal of a racist and authoritarian government. It also implies using the immense power and privilege many institutions have to stand up to attacks on black people, latinos, LGBTQ people, muslims, women, and immigrants like it's a fight for our own lives.
