It's hard to look around and not see something that a civil engineer didn't have a hand in developing. Its easy to see that your roads, airports, dams and schools buildings have been designed by an engineer. But there are a number of things in our daily lives that you may be surprised to know that an engineer had their hands in helping develop. Here is a list of interesting civil engineering facts that we believe make engineering seem much more interesting: The world's first ferris wheel was created in 1893 by George W. Ferris an engineer from Pittsburgh, PA. That first Ferris wheel was supported by two 140 foot towers connected by a 45 foot steel axle; the largest piece of forged steel at the time. Other amusement park rides are also made possible thanks to engineers. Everything from proper lighting placement to crowd flow and movement is designed by theme park engineers. Engineers are also credited with the development of running shoes, the invent of the snowboard and the innovations to TV technologies. Bioengineers are moving medical innovations into the future with prosthetic developments, 3D printing technology that uses human cells as an "ink" and and advances in fertility techniques. At CivTrans Engineering we work with both the public and private sectors to find civil engineering solutions in Colorado and Nebraska. With hundreds of varied and complex civil engineering projects completed successfully, CivTrans founder Craig MacPhee has been recognized and respected for his quality of work and his standard of excellence that he brings to every civil engineering or traffic control plan that he implements.
