If you think March Madness is just about basketball...Think again! In the professional fishing world March is one of the busiest months of the year. This month I have already been to Lake Hartwell in South Carolina for the FLW Majors Tour Event, I am currently at Toledo Bend on the border of Texas and Louisiana for the Rayovac Texas Series Event and when this tournament finishes I am going right next door to Sam Rayburn in Jasper, Texas for the next FLW Majors Tour Event. March 1-8, 2014. Lake Hartwell is a man-made reservoir bordering Georgia and South Carolina on the Savannah, Tugaloo, and Seneca Rivers. Lake Hartwell is one of the southeast's largest and most popular recreation lakes. Fishing. Hartwell is home to many different types of fish including largemouth bass, bream, hybrid and striped bass, crappie, white bass, trout, and walleye. While the week started off with beautiful with 60 degree weather and warming water temperatures and looking to be promising for a pre-spawn bite, Mother Nature threw us a ball fake. Techincal Foul for Mother Nature when she brought bone chilling temperatures, rain, and winds for the remainder of pratice through Friday afternoon of the tournament. Literally, during Monday's practice the weather went from perfect day sunny and mid 60s to windy, rainy and 40s in a matter of 15 minutes. The first day of the tournament I did fairly well with 11 lbs 4 oz and finished in the top 50 for the day. Day two conditions were brutal and while I made some adjustements I had 6lbs and 14 oz for a total of 18lbs and 2 oz for the tourment and finishing in 70th place.March 15-22, 2014. Toledo Bend Reservoir is a reservoir on the Sabine River between Texas and Louisiana. The lake has an area of 185,000 acres , the largest man-made body of water in, the largest in the South, and the fifth largest in the United States. With Mother Nature playing defense the beginning of this tournament season it is nice to have her maybe on offense for the next couple of tournaments (but we are in Texas, so who knows). Weather right now should be a balmy 70 degrees and sunny during the tournament. So I am on the look out for the first wave of spawners to be moving up this week. Site fishing is one of my favorite fishing techniques and I am looking for it to play a major role in this tournament. I remember in a past tournament on Toledo Bend I made a fastbreak during March one bed gave me 3 fish for 18 lbs. Keep up with the tourment on my Facebook Page or at www.flwoutdoors.com. Day 1 & 2 Weigh-In's will be at Cypress Bend Park. Sam Rayburn Reservoir is an 114,000-acre lake in the Big Thicket country of Texas, with native flora including orchids, insect-eating plants and scores of animal species. At 114,000 acres, Sam Rayburn Reservoir is the largest man-made lake located totally within the boundaries of the state of Texas. The lake is located deep in the Piney Woods of Southeast Texas, nestled within the Angelina and Sabine National Forest. Sam Rayburn Reservoir is nationally renowned for its large mouth bass fishery, hosting numerous tournaments each year. Just like Toledo the tournament at Rayburn looks to be another tournament for the spawn bite. The water temperatures should be just right for the big girl bite. It will be much different then the blizzard we had there in January. Day 1 & 2 wiegh ins will be at Cassels-Boykin County Park.
