Press Release: Cembrane : Emvees for the first time introduces MBR integral with SiC membranes

Emvees, partner with Cembrane A/S of Denmark inaugurated a project of MBR plant with Sic membranes, for their client in Sharjah, UAE. For the first time ever, in technical association with Cembrane A/S of Denmark, Emvees have retrofitted Silicon Carbide (SiC) membranes, a new generation ceramic membranes that are capable of providing effluent of the highest quality, fixed into a MBR plant, which had been formerly equipped with a polymeric membrane. This revamping has been done at the ETP of a factory in Sharjah, UAE. The ETP has a capacity of 250 m3/day, with an inlet BOD/ COD of 5000/ 8000 mg/l, respectively. The solution made a unique performance in refining oil contaminated water. The purified water from the MBR flow into a Reverse Osmosis plant for further processing. The waste water from the aeration tank, undergoes ultra filtration followed by a Reverse osmosis process and is then re-used in the cooling towers and for the boliers, within the factory complex. The SiC membranes have attained a flux rate of 80 LMH for waste water filtration, at least 6 times the flux that was prevalent with the previous polymeric membranes in use in the MBR plant, with a threshold TMP of 135-140mbars. The processed water is extremely clear and the MBR is operating well with SiC Membarane. This plant earns the distinction of having the first ever MBR fitted with SiC membranes, with a capacity of 250 m3/day.
