Calvary Assembly Of God - Pooler, Ga Blog Children, You Need to Eat Your Veggies!

I will never forget when our oldest daughter was just a baby. We were trying to get her to eat some green peas. You know, the English peas? And you know they had to be good. Gerber baby food made them! (LOL) But she would make a face that was so ugly! She would turn her head and spit them right out. Then she would just shake her head & you knew the fight was on! We would try to mix them up with fruit, tapioca pudding, but she still knew those green peas were in there. She was determined not to eat them at all. I also have this friend, that if he goes to eat lunch with me you can bet he will get double French fries if he can, he will not get any green beans or peas. I know one person who says," if it's green it can't be good for you!" To me this is funny because I love Veggies. But I love some I don't need, like corn, black eyed peas, and more corn you see these were the only thing I thought were Veggies until I met my wife so many years ago! I did not understand they were a starch and helped to give me some "southern fat handles". She knew Veggies as Brussels sprouts (I call them little cabbages), broccoli and the like. She would say, "honey, this is what is healthy for you!" I still say Bah Humbug!!!!! I do eat them and love them much, I don't eat as much of the other as I use to - they tend to make me gain weight because I don't burn it off as easy as I once did. Why all this talk about green stuff that is healthy? It's the same way in our walk with Jesus, there are many things easy to grab a hold to in His Word, but then there are many things we need that our flesh does not want to hear. There are many things He tells us to turn away from, but our flesh wants to hold on too. But if we do it will pull us down. I was reading one of my devotional books this morning by Oswald Chambers . He said these words: "Salvation does not mean merely deliverance from sin or the experience of personal holiness. The salvation which comes from God means being placed into perfect union with Him." For this to take place there must be total surrender by us. It's not what we want anymore, it's all about what Jesus wants of us, for we are not our own. You see, we may not like certain foods, but it doesn't mean they're not good for us. Sometimes we have to learn to eat healthy, and we have to do the same with the Word of God. There are some things we don't want to hear or obey but if we don't we won't be spiritually healthy. My friend, that is a disaster waiting to happen! It will mess us up in a heartbeat. The Word of God is a package deal. It is a complete Book to teach us to be a complete person. So, I beg of you today: eat your Veggies and study your Bible then you will know true health.Blessings, Pastor
