Cactus Technologies has announced a range of pSLC storage media manufactured that is cost-effective and robust for industrial applications.
Industrial designers normally have to make a choice between durable, yet expensive SLC (single-level cell) drives or take a chance with the more efficient MLC (multi-level cell) drives. Now pSLC technology from Cactus Technology can offer the best of both types of drive. pSLC flash storage systems have MLC-NAND cells that store a single bit instead of the usual two bits, like a SLC-NAND cell. The pSLC technology makes MLC flash storage faster and more durable. It also increases the number of writes per flash cell considerably. The pSLC drives in the 245S series offer six times more writes than comparable MLC systems.
