You might look up an interesting design in a magazine and find a couple of tips which fit in with the type of renovation that you would want to do. Or better, take photos of designs that you like. Not only are they more descriptive, it also makes it easier for you to point out to the designer and the contractor when you tell them how you'd want the design and the renovation to be. Keeping them written or photographed would help later on and make it easier for you to know how you'd like certain aspects and even the end result to be.
