What classifies something as flat design? Flat design adopted its name from the shapes used to create it. Flat design is a distinct two dimensional appearance that looks flat! Due to the simple elements used in creating your design your typography needs to really create a remarkable impression on your readers. Try to coordinate the tone of your chosen typeface with that of your overall website design. In an effort to produce a page in tune with your chosen design effect stick to simple wording that transmits your message efficiently. Save the flowery expressive descriptions for a different time. A good choice would be a font in the sans serif family which allows for variations and bolding while still reflecting flat design. It is okay to include one specialty design too, just don't go overboard and risk a cluttered appearance. Closing in on Color. Interestingly enough the color palette for flat designs are generally more comprehensive and bolder than those for other sites. A flat design palette may incorporate up to 6 or 8 hues as ooposeed to a standard design which generally sticks to two or three. Designers tend to use more vibrant colors which is understandable because if there is no shadowing or feathering may as well stick to bold colors! Colors such as salmon, purple, green, and blue are especially popular! Avoid including too many images and embellishments. Flat design works best with an overall minimalistic approach. Shy away from distracting elements that will detract reader attention from your website goal. It's okay to include some pictures, just stick to small and simple photography. Photos placed neatly near each other are also okay, as long as the effect of the overlap page still flows nicely. The basic idea of flat design is to keep it simple clean and modern. Your customers will be satisfied with an interface that doesn't overwhelm their senses. It's a design that makes sense; the less cluttered your screen is the easier it is for your visitors to navigate. Flat design is a great example of achieving more by using less.
