The bit.io team is joining Databricks. We started bit.io with the mission of making individuals and teams immediately productive with data via a great developer experience and data-centric product principles. Databricks shares that vision with us, and we’re thrilled that our team will be joining Databricks to deliver an incredible experience for developers on the Lakehouse. As part of this transition, we’re sunsetting our database product. We’re committed to making the transition process as easy as possible. Here’s what you need to know:The timeline: You have until July 29th to migrate your data off of bit.io. We recommend you do it earlier.Until June 29th, you will have the option to manually initiate the migration process using pg_dump and pg_restore. You can also generate a pg_dump export on our website or you can also use a database migration service. During this time, all databases will run normally, but we recommend that you wind down usage as soon as is feasible. After June 29th, your database will shut down, and you’ll receive a link to your final database dump. You will then have until July 29th to download your data via that email link. You can read more about how to complete the migration here.Downtime: Migrating your database may require some downtime. We recommend making sure your app works with your new database provider before you start migrating data. If you have Pro databases with some significant potential downtime (one minute or more), we’ll reach out to help you with the migration process.Where to go from here: Your decision on which new database provider to migrate your database to is highly dependent on your needs, and each option comes with tradeoffs. We have a list of suggested options for you to start from. For help: You can let us know on Discord or community.bit.io if you need support on your account or support with the migration process. Discord will also sunset on June 29th and cease to be available, and at that time community.bit.io and docs also will enter read-only mode and remain available until July 29th.Thank you for using bit.io and the opportunity to support your needs. If there’s anything we can do to help make this transition easier, please let us know. What’s Next For bit.io was originally published in bit.io on Medium, where people are continuing the conversation by highlighting and responding to this story.
