I walk her to the bathroom, making sure that she doesn't trip over the tubing. Her desire for privacy is no longer as strong as her desire for a loved one's close presence. I stay while she hangs her head, wipes her brow, and uses the toilet. I hesitate, but eventually decide to keep a steady hand on her arm. I want her to know that I am not bothered or uncomfortable by staying in the bathroom with her. She looks exhausted. She can barely raise her head to ask me for a cold towel.  [...]
