Anthony Tyler Blog More on The Devils...

This is my first post for the new year. I hope everyone had a safe holiday season...now get over it and get back to whatever it is you do. Tomorrow, January 5, begins the next phase (I think there have been at least ten so far) of The Devils in First Class album project. I will be heading to drummer Sal G's home studio to wade through oodles and oodles of instrument tracks (recorded over a five year period) in order to rebuild the songs for the upcoming album release. The idea is to take whatever tracks I have - guitars, bass, keyboards, piano, SFX, and the like - and create new sessions so that Sal can put some massive drums in place. This will be interesting because I honestly have no idea what I have with regard to instrument tracks. Tomorrow will tell the tale. But, for all intents and purposes, the actual creation of the album resumes tomorrow. The other idea that's been floating around in my head is the whole naming of the album conundrum. Both Sal and I really dig, what is now the title, The Devils in First Class however, I actually like that as a "band" name. It has a very modern ring to it. There's also the chance that this album will be, in effect, a band album that will need a few other players to bring it to life on stage. I know I've walked this plank before: teetering on the brink of a return to performing with a band or solo, but there's something in this music that I feel strongly about with regard to performance. Now, I don't know what will happen on that end of it. I do know the album will, at some point, be completed by myself and Sal. I am looking forward to finding out what I have from the past fives years of recording these songs. Best case scenario - we've got the building blocks or a complete foundation for Sal to groove with. If not, then maybe we start from the ground up and re-record all tracks. We certainly have the ability to do this...Things are going to get busy, that's for sure. I look forward to that.
