Linda and I met at a party. She said that she had an allergy to cats. And, she knew when and how her allergy started. Linda had always loved cats. When she saw her beloved Mr. Meow killed by two German shepherds, she told herself, "I'll never get close to a cat again!" Linda was allergic to cats after that. She was the victim of "allergy hypnosis". The altered state of consciousness created by Linda's trauma caused her unconscious mind to be susceptible to suggestions, just as if she were hypnotized. When she told to herself that she never get close to a cat again, her subconscious responded by making her allergic to cats. Linda had inadvertently given herself a suggestion for allergy hypnosis. Linda's story sparked my curiosity, so I offered to help her eliminate her allergy. Since Linda knew what had caused the allergy, it was easy for me to help her. I used a conversational hypnotic technique from neurolinguistic programming (NLP) that was developed to eliminate phobias.
