I'm a stay-at-home writer. As you can imagine, the majority of my day involves sitting in front of a computer. I'm not likely to get up and move throughout the house to do common tasks. If this is similar to your life then you're not alone. At least one parent works a full-time job outside the home, often behind a desk for 8 hours. While you're sitting, however, there are exercises you can do to spice up your dull day. Ankle rotations are one exercise. Kick your shoes off under your desk. Then, move your ankle in a slow circle-first moving it to the right and then moving it to the left. Only move it left or right one at a time. And, try to move your ankle more than 5 or 10 seconds. Doing this exercise is going to make your ankles stronger, making it less likely that you'll suffer a sprain.Waist rotations are another stretch to keep you focused throughout the day. I often do this exercise when I'm fatigued and need a burst of energy. Sit up straight in your chair, placing your hands on the arms of your chair. Then, move to the right, twisting your torso as far as you can. Hold this position for a few seconds and then repeat for the other side. Do at least eight repetitions of this stretch-four per side-grabbing the back of your chair if you need more support.Side stretches, too, are an exercise you can do in your office chair. Sit up straight in your chair and stretch your left arm over your head. Then, grab your right arm and pull your left arm to the right side. As a result, you should feel a stretch down your left side. Hold this position for 10 seconds, then change arms and repeat on the other sideFinally, try leg lifts. Start this exercise with both feet flat on the floor. Moving away from your desk, lift one leg as high as you can. Hold this position for a few seconds, making sure your foot is straight and your leg is bent is at a 90-degree angle. Do ten repetitions on each side. This exercise is going to help strength your core muscles as well as those muscles in your thighs.
