We have received a number of inquiries raising the question of: "Do you only serve people with an SCI?" The answer is no. We will absolutely consider anyone with a catastrophic disability resulting in a ambulatory impairment that would prevent one from strapping on a pair of boots and boards designed for able bodied folks. In fact, we would consider anyone who can't strap on a snow board or skis without adaptive equipment. Some of the fastest adaptive skiers in the world are double amputees for instance.Nor do we require that your disability be accident related . The program originally was conceptualized because of Mr. Gilbert's work with injury victims, but is open to accident victims, workplace injuries, congenital disabilities, service related injuries and disease related impairment. The primary goal is to reach people who truly either want to become skiers again or who simply want to become skiers. In that respect, we are a bit different than group programs that allow people to merely experience a day on the slope. Many of our participants have at least had a taste of skiing pre or post injury. We are looking for a glimmer of passion! Whether that comes from a taste of the freedom on the slopes or from watching the Winter Olympics or Xgames we don't care! If your are feeling the passion for whistling down a slope on your own with the crisp and exhilarating feel of the wind and a snowflake or two melting on your face, all enhanced with a double shot of adrenaline, then we encourage you to apply!
