I am always reminded on this day of the struggle our forefathers endured to create this nation. Years of abuse before finally declaring our independence from England. Contrary to popular belief, we actually declared Independence on July 2 but in typical government fashion, it took two days to have all the changes documented and printed. Hence July 4 became Independence Day. The actual document was completely signed for weeks. What brave men. Had they lost the war, they all would have been rounded up, sent to England, tried and hanged as traitors. Probably why Americans still root for underdogs - it's in out nation's DNA. Also, even though Cornwallis surrendered his command at Yorktown in October of 1781, the war continued for several more years until 1783. So give thanks to the brave men and women who endured so much to give birth to this nation. Happy Birthday American.
