At about 5:30am this morning, the frantic barking of our dogs alerted us that something was going down. We checked the yard to make sure that no-one was hiding and then went to assist with what sounded like a furious search.Apparently, a bad guy was spotted jumping over a wall into someone's yard by the local "security man in the hut" - let call him Mr. C. Unlike most of the guys who normally man this hut, Mr. C is awake all the time and actually wants to keep the area safe. Mr. "C" called his armed response backup vehicle, who arrived on the scene, drove around the block and promptly announced that the bad guy had left and drove off into the sunrise.Mr. C, determined not to let the bad guy go, but aware that he has neither the equipment nor the appropriate training to confront an armed perpetrator, called the Mountain Men who immediately responded. The bad guy in the meantime is obviously new to our neighborhood (the typical criminals around here immediately find a good hiding place and lay low, sometimes for hours) - he began jumping walls from garden to garden until he was confronted by a neighbor, who yelled for assistance. The bad guy managed to stab the neighbor in the hand just as the Mountain Men, along with Mr. C arrived. He was promptly arrested and hand-cuffed by the Mountain Men Officers. While waiting for the police to arrive (the made their appearance about an hour later), we tried to ask the bad guy some questions and received no response. He had clearly decided that his best bet was to play possum.By this time, pretty much the entire neighborhood had gathered to get the scoop and Mr. Possum was innocently laying there not moving, waiting for his chance to make his getaway. One of the Mountain Men went and stood directly over Mr. Possum negating his chances of escape. One the police arrived, he was fine and jumped into the back of their truck.I find this possum ploy very interesting and I wonder how many times bad guys run away when no-one is watching. This is a used Tik (Meth) pipe we found around Mr. Possum's neck. It was smashed in the scuffle.
