The term action RPG is a synonym with Diablo for many, however no matter how good that game might be, the reality is that it does have its fair share of issues. Haemimont Games have thought about that and created a very interesting, exciting game in the form of Victor Vran!What Victor Vran does is that it takes the classic ARPG formula and brings in some new, cool stuff all the time. For example, this is the first game in the genre that allows you to control your character with the keyboard, usually this is done with the mouse. As you would expect, this simple mechanic does manage to provide you with a lot more control and I have to say that the game does a great job in allowing you to avoid battle or reaching new areas to get better loot this way.You can also use a dodge mechanic during battles, something that makes the overall gaming experience a lot more fun and tactical as well.While playing Victor Vran I saw that they didn't go with the normal idea where you get tons of loot, instead most of the time monsters will drop gold. There are however outfits and weapons as well as other items, but these drop rarely, which for me is better, since I hate to go in the inventory that often anyways.Despite the fact that the game is in Early Access, so changes might appear until the release scheduled next month, I feel that the game is very polished and ready to play, something rare in the case of these paid alphas to be honest.There are combos and special moves to use, as well as demonic powers which add up a lot of nice stuff into the mix. These powers are indeed one of a kind and to be honest I had a lot of fun using them on enemies, as there are many situations in which these enemies will come in very large numbers, so you do need to strategize the best way you can.Also, instead of skills, you get cards which is another great change of pace. These cards are fun to use and allow you to guide your character towards any type of attack mode you might want. I find it fun that the game is not restrictive as all, in fact even the monsters have a good AI so they behave naturally which for me is a major plus. Difficulty is ok most of the time, but there are regions in which it will be either too hard or too easy, however as I said it's nicely optimized most of the time and you will like it, this is all that matters. The controller support works quite nicely, which is also nice as well.Is Victor Vran a great game? Sure, it lacks the polish and budget of Diablo for example, but considering what it set out to do, I feel that it's well worth the money , considering that it's around 4 times cheaper than Diablo, without counting its expansion. Since the game isn't fully released, we can't talk about length but the devs did promise around 20 hours which is more than ok, not to mention that you can always go back and play more. Overall, it's a wonderful game to check out, especially if you want to scratch that ARPG itch!8/10
