Rockwell Collins (NYSE, COL) provides avionics and information technology systems and services to governmental agencies and aircraft manufacturers. Founded in 1933, it has its corporate headquarters in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Since its inception, Rockwell Collins and its products have been recognized for distinctive quality and state-of-the-art technology. As Collins Radio Company, it was in the business of designing and producing short wave radio equipment. It steadily grew and captured the world's attention when it supplied the equipment to establish a communication link with the South Pole expedition of Rear Admiral Richard Byrd in 1933. The next three decades saw Collins continuing with its expansion work to all phases of the communications field while broadening its technology thrust into numerous other disciplines. It was responsible for new developments such as flight control instruments, radio communication devices, and satellite voice transmissions. It also provided communications to America's space program, including equipment for astronauts to communicate with earth stations and equipment to track and communicate with spacecraft. Its equipment were used by the Apollo, Gemini, and Mercury programs. It was also used by the 1973 US Skylab Program. When Collins experienced financial difficulties, Rockwell International acquired Collins Radio Company. The new company strengthened its focus on aviation electronics when it sold its railroad electronics business to Westinghouse. Rockwell Collins provides customers with total life cycle service solutions for successful missions. It offers integrated support solutions that are uniquely tailored to maximize long-term supportability and reduce life-cycle costs. It provides 24/7 global service and support network from more than 60 locations and 19,000 dedicated employees worldwide. Customers are assured of quality service wherever and whenever they need them. Rockwell Collins provides customers with their required expertise. Whether in a specific area or across multiple domains, the company offers solutions that meet customer's needs.
