The world’s largest community-based competitive insights platform.
At Owler, we truly believe that knowledge is power. By understanding your entire business ecosystem, you have the power to make the most informed strategic decisions possible.
Our community-based competitive insights platform provides the most accurate, up-to-date business information in existence, helping business professionals from around the world outsmart their competition and uncover the latest industry news and alerts.
We’re powered by a vibrant community of over 2 million business professionals. To date, Owler Community members have contributed 24 million unique insights through Opinion Polls presented via email and our web platform, about topics ranging from private company revenue estimates, to CEO approval ratings, to employee headcount, and more.
Best of all, Owler is for everyone: from startups to large enterprises (including 96 percent of the Fortune 500), and teams of a few members to organizations of 15,000 people. And Owler is used across all levels and departments, including CEOs, marketers, sales reps, finance professionals, VCs, product managers, engineers, and everyone in between.
In 2011, Owler founders Jim Fowler (Founder and Executive Chairman) and Tim Harsch (Co-Founder and CEO) decided they wanted to create the best business insights company on the planet.
But let’s go all the way back to the beginning. In 2003, Jim founded Jigsaw, which pioneered the data-as-a-software industry and was sold to Salesforce.com for $175 million, marking one of their largest acquisitions to date.
During his seven years at Jigsaw, Jim employed many-a-talented intern, and of all those bright, hard-working young people, Tim was a definite stand-out. As Tim’s graduation drew near, Jim reached out to him with good and bad news. The good news was that he was starting a new company, and wanted him to come work with him again. The bad news was that if he didn’t come work for Jim after graduation, Jim would give him a horrible reference.
Creating, running, and ultimately selling Jigsaw opened Jim’s eyes to the uncharted expanse of possibility in the data industry. He had built something great—but he knew he could do even better. Jigsaw saw unprecedented success in the crowdsourcing space, but Owler sought to take community contributions to the next level by going further, digging deeper, and gathering even more intelligence from millions of business professionals.
Owler was founded in 2011 with the name InfoArmy and originally operated under a different business model. That year, we secured $2 million Series A financing. The following year, in 2012, we raised another $17.3 million in Series B financing from top-tier venture firms Norwest Venture Partners and Trinity Ventures. In 2014, we pivoted our business model, and Owler-as-we-know-it was born.
Since our company-defining pivot, we’ve increased our user community by 10X two years in a row. We finished off 2014 with 10,000 active users. One year later, we waved goodbye to 2015 and said hello to our 100,000th active user. And then one year after that, in December 2016, we hit the 1 million active user mark. Now, we have our sights (and hearts, minds, and projections) set on 10 million active users. Second only to LinkedIn, Owler has now become the largest business community in existence.
Our team of passionate problem-solvers is committed to disrupting the tired data industry with the most accurate, real-time community-driven business information in existence. With a dozen employees in our Silicon Valley headquarters and 70 member team in India, we’re a global company making waves in the data industry.
As we look toward the future, we’re gearing up for 10 million active users. We’re expanding the insights users can contribute and innovating new ways to understand that information. We’ll be extensively mapping relationships between businesses like no one else has before.
